Project architect Brad Kline brings 30 years of experience – 12 at the helm of his own design/build firm – to his exacting and astute work at Period Architecture. Hailing from a family of builders, Brad was always fascinated by design and construction, and calls upon his broad expertise to fashion high-quality, thoughtfully-crafted homes. With a well-trained eye and vast knowledge of aesthetic and structural principles, Brad is able to envision and execute on every stage of a project, from drafting and design through building and finishing.

“I particularly enjoy collaborating with clients, which transitions into the integration of design, to the technical aspects of creating two-dimensional drawings, and ultimately transforming into three-dimensional architecture,” Brad says. From the technical to the artistic, Brad is motivated and inspired by the sheer diversity of activities and responsibilities he tackles on any given day and project. A Penn College graduate, Brad currently resides in Selinsgrove. Outside of architecture, his passions include hiking, camping, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family.

In his role as project architect, Kyle Gresh focuses on seeing designs through from start to finish. With a keen eye for detail, Kyle shepherds the myriad pieces of complex plans to ensure they seamlessly come together to create memorable experiences and exquisite homes for Period Architecture clients. A natural relationship-builder, Kyle is able to unearth and articulate homeowner’s unique wants and needs to bring their dream home to fruition.

After graduating from Temple University, Kyle spent several years at firms in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas until joining the Period Architecture team in 2015. He draws much of his inspiration from his world travels. “Seeing how people live in such varied areas, in everything from straw huts to houses built hundreds of years ago, has affected how I view the vernacular architecture here in our country, and specifically here in Pennsylvania,” says Kyle. Kyle lives in Exton, where he can usually be found biking, running, hiking, kayaking, and otherwise enjoying the great outdoors with his beloved rescue dog, Ginger.

Michael Chady uses his meticulous eye to detail, review and document construction drawings, from delicate, period-appropriate restorations to new builds suffused with a historic sense of time and place. Michael plays a role in creating stately and well-appointed homes, including managing construction, creating detailed cabinetry drawings, and more. His impeccable sense of detail and sophistication, appreciation for the local vernacular, and passion for how architecture influences one’s lifestyle drives much of his work.

“One of the best parts of residential architecture is meeting with clients directly and learning things about them that they might not even know themselves,” Michael says. Michael’s childhood affinity for architecture led him to Drexel University, where he spent time studying French design and engineering in Paris. “It was like reading a history novel through architecture,” he recalls. Prior to joining the Period Architecture team, Michael honed his impressive repertoire of skills with projects in coastal New England and New York. An avid runner, Michael lives in King of Prussia, where he and his wife often spend their weekends hiking.

When project architect Michael Stonikinis approaches new projects, context and cohesion are his primary focus. He aims for aspects of his designs to connect with and reflect the area around them. “What fascinates me about vernacular architecture is that it is both highly dynamic, because it varies with the people and customs of each region, and wonderfully serene, because it is tied to the particular history of that region,” Michael says.

Growing up on construction sites alongside his father who was a contractor, Michael had an early interest in building design. This was further solidified during a trip to Rome when he visited St. Peter’s Basilica. As Michael watched the sunlight stream through the stained glass windows and reflect off the plumes of incense smoke, he knew he was destined for a career in architecture. Michael received his Bachelor of Architecture from Pennsylvania State University and now lives in Doylestown. He is currently dedicating all of his spare time to renovating his family’s 1950s Cape Cod.

Inspired by quality craftsmanship and classical architectural styles found throughout the Pennsylvania countryside, Marisela Gerardo brings enthusiasm and originality to her role as Project Architect. “Tailoring design for each individual homeowner is what I have always wanted to do,” Marisela says. “It’s incredibly gratifying to design spaces where families live, grow and will bring them a lifetime of joy.”

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Marisela embraces the collaborative studio environment found within Period Architecture. Creative and confident, she plays an inquisitive role in the firm’s endeavors, ensuring presentations, design and detail studies, documentation and many tasks in between are conducted with the utmost attention.

Mari spends her free time playing tennis, walking in and around Philadelphia and Fairmount Park and exploring for continued design inspiration. On the weekends, you may find her in Cape May or at Citizens Bank Park cheering on the Phillies.

Ben Eckhard became an architect for one simple reason: to design for homeowners. “I could design all the homes in the world. But if there weren’t clients to live in them, love them, and fill them with memories, my work wouldn’t mean anything to me,” he says. Now as a project architect for Period Architecture, Ben relishes the process of collaborating with homeowners and watching them light up over their finished home. His dedication to initially hand-drawing concept sketches and diving deeply into research at the beginning of the design process is what ultimately allows him to successfully deliver projects from start to finish.

With an interior designer for a mother, Ben’s summer job as a teenager was to creatively photograph her work so he was raised with an intuitive understanding of residential design. It was through the lens of his camera that Ben developed an abiding fascination for architecture. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Marywood University and his previous work has included involvement in award-winning projects. Ben lives in Doylestown and spends his free time playing with his kids, learning new languages, and discovering local coffee shops.

Andrew Barkhouse joined Period Architecture after beginning his career in New York. From classic brownstones and converted church rectories to countryside escapes outside the bustling city, his focus is creating livable spaces with sophisticated details. “The complex intersection between historic properties and contemporary construction are the challenges I enjoy solving,” Andrew says.

Growing up in a fishing town in Maine, both his parents worked in real estate which offered dynamic dinner-time conversations and enforced his fascination with historic coastal architecture around the Acadia region. When not exploring new restaurants in Andrew’s new hometown of Philadelphia, you will find him and his wife outside the city hiking or finding his way back to the coast to enjoy the ocean.

William applies his discerning eye and technical mind to his role as Project Architect. Teachers and parents noticed his early aptitude for methodical drawing and inspired him to pursue architecture. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Art History he received his Master of Architecture both from Temple University, where he is currently an adjunct professor in the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. Recently, his master’s thesis on the adaptive reuse of a gothic revival church was published by the European Association for Architectural Education at their Architectural Research Centers Consortium in Valencia, Spain.

“I enjoy bringing designs to life through technology. Two-dimensional drawings can only tell a piece of the story, but a three-dimensional rendering allows for a thorough comprehension of the fabric of a home and how someone will experience the space,” says William. His keen perception helps streamline the design process and allows for modifications during each phase. Originally from Media, Pennsylvania, he currently resides in Center City Philadelphia. When not working, you can find William playing soccer, hiking, running, or building custom furniture for friends and family.

A dynamic thinker and skilled designer, Olivia Fitzgerald brings a versatile background to her role as Junior Architect. After earning a dual degree in architecture and graphic design, as well as a master’s in management from Lehigh University, Olivia sought a career path that would allow her to engage both her logical and creative thinking. With a trained eye for graphics, Olivia’s creativity shines through her ability to translate technical elevations into artistic perspectives. “I find being a part of the process from the beginning helps me to create inspired visualizations,” Olivia says. “I love seeing how projects evolve from an initial idea on paper into a tangible reality.”

Growing up in Massachusetts and spending summers in Cape Cod, Olivia developed an appreciation for traditional regional architecture that celebrates the history of a place. Now living just outside of Doylestown, she continues to find inspiration in classic architecture and the variety of styles throughout Bucks County. Olivia spends her free time cultivating her creative spirit by photographing nature or teaching herself new skills and crafts like crocheting, knitting, and baking. She loves to travel and often takes weekend excursions to visit family and friends along the East Coast.

With an innate interest in preserving the memory of a place, Junior Architect Justine Palmer enjoys playing a role in the site analysis stage at Period Architecture.  Growing up along the eastern shore of Maryland, Justine admires eastern shore architecture and the intricacies of existing historic structures.  For her education, she traveled across the country to study architecture at Arizona State University, where her studies reinforced her passion for the classical and traditional architecture found along the East Coast.

A history buff with a fondness for architectural styles from the Gilded Age to the Roaring 20s, Justine is drawn to the historic preservation side of architecture. “We live in a modern world that is getting more technologically advanced every day. I believe it is as important as ever to learn from our past and keep that history alive,” Justine says. “I enjoy being able to elaborate on the characteristics of an old house, while also creating a new and functional home for generations to enjoy.”

Outside the firm, Justine loves spending time with her pets, reading her favorite fantasy and mystery novels and listening to true-crime podcasts. She and her fiancé live in King of Prussia and are often found playing golf and attending Philadelphia Union soccer games.

Ben hails from a coastal Connecticut town with historical New England colonial buildings and residences around every corner. Surrounded by traditional design throughout his early years, he found a passion for drawing and exploring the built form.  In his role as Junior Architect, Ben often hand-sketches details and design concepts. “Drawing by hand is a great way to organize your thoughts and brainstorm ideas,” he says. “It allows me to analyze a space, almost like piecing together a puzzle, and finding balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal.”

Ben received his degree in architecture from Marywood University, where he fine-tuned his design skills and personal style, while also playing on the lacrosse team. Currently living in Philadelphia, Ben enjoys finding new restaurants and exploring the city. From going to Eagles games and freshwater fishing to visiting friends, Ben appreciates different adventures in his everyday life.

Mark Dosa utilizes his strong technical background to assist with plans, elevations, and renderings in his role as Junior Architect at Period Architecture. Always eager to learn, Mark values collaboration and the sharing of ideas. “One of my favorite aspects of the design process is the feedback you receive from homeowners and colleagues,” Mark says. “I’m always striving to adapt to challenges and push the envelope of our work.”

With a degree in architecture and sustainable design from Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Mark embraces new design tools and modeling instruments to ensure well-defined drawings and presentations for homeowners and partners alike. A self-admitted perfectionist, his eye for detail helps bring designs to fruition. Mark can be found by the water on the weekends. Whether the Jersey Shore or visiting his family in Florida, you will find him with a fishing pole in his hands.

As an Intern Architect, Thomas brings a vibrant enthusiasm and creative energy to his work at Period Architecture. He focuses on generating presentation drawings or models that bring projects to life and ensure everyone is on the same page about even the smallest elements of a project. He also draws design details and building surveys for the Period Architecture team.

For as long as Thomas can remember, he’s had a drawing pencil in hand, and this fascination with drawing eventually transformed into an interest in building design. “I wanted to be part of creating something that would positively impact communities and improve how we inhabit the world around us,” he says. Thomas is currently in his third year at Drexel University and is working towards his Bachelor of Architecture. On the weekends, you can find Thomas engaging in a variety of activities including powerlifting, watching live music at The Fillmore, painting, and meandering through the vibrant city of Philadelphia where he lives.

The stunningly realistic 3D models created by intern architect Tyler Lambert help our clients visualize their future homes during the early stages of the design process. As a sharp, creative thinker, Tyler is constantly brainstorming how we can graphically apply and enhance our designs with our clients’ experiences with them. “What I love about residential architecture is that it is an intimate, ongoing, and ever-evolving experience with a space,” Tyler says. “It’s so rewarding to be part of a team that’s creating these unique experiences for homeowners.”

As a child, Tyler was always drawn to the personality and detailing of the old stone houses in his childhood town of Towanda, PA. So it didn’t take him long to realize that he wanted to be an architect. Tyler is now pursuing his Bachelor of Architecture at Drexel University and will graduate next year. When he’s not working, Tyler walks miles around Philadelphia, streams the latest shows on Netflix, and catches up with his close friends.

Katelyn’s journey into the world of design began in her hometown of Alexandria, Virginia. Surrounded by 18^th and 19^th century architecture, a class assignment prompted her to create a portfolio of drawings based solely on written descriptions of architecture. The creativity and challenge of transferring design from the mind’s eye to paper inspired her pursuit of a career in architecture. During her bachelor’s program at Lehigh University, she studied abroad in Italy, where her appreciation for classical design, art history, and observational drawing flourished.

“What I find most exciting about architecture is an idea coming to life visually,” Katelyn explains. “The way in which we translate imagination into reality is ever evolving and it’s exciting to be involved in that portion of design and visualizations.” She continued her education, receiving a master’s degree in management. She now uses her knowledge in architecture and business to focus her efforts on curating and presenting the firm’s visual endeavors.

Outside of the firm, Katelyn likes to stay active, both physically and mentally, by attending fitness classes, playing in a soccer league, reading, and watching films. She also loves to satisfy her adventurous spirit by spending time outdoors, exploring new cities, and traveling abroad.
