Patrick’s passion for architecture started early in high school after enrolling in a drafting course that utilized both his mathematical skills and design creativity. After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from University of Florida, he was awarded the Albert Binder Travel Fellowship to further his studies at the Preservation Institute in Nantucket where he completed HABS surveys and documentation drawings of historical homes for the Library of Congress. After learning the detailed process of restoring the historic Jared Coffin House in Nantucket from a guest lecturer, he was further inspired to focus his career on preservation and traditional design.
This motivation led him to attain dual Master’s Degrees in Historic Preservation and Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Following his graduate degrees, he worked for a notable Philadelphia area architecture firm for over 23 years where he honed his skills in traditional design, preservation, master planning and the understanding of historic precedent. “Great architecture always finds a way to design itself,” Patrick explains. “When laying out a home, there is a moment in the process that the individual design elements meld together and form the perfect combination of functionality and form. These are the moments in time that I enjoy most.”
With an array of awards, scholarships and projects featured in numerous books and publications, his projects can be found along the East Coast and as far away as China. His dedication to the craft of architecture truly shines through in his ongoing commitment to design, preserve, and retain this region’s unique built environment. He was a founding member of the Westtown Historic Commission and volunteered his time to restore the iconic Oakbourne Water Tower and Drexel estate. He also served as a board member for the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Penn Design Alumni Association, and the Oakbourne Mansion Committee. When not designing, Patrick enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons and can also be found umpiring local Eastside Little League and Westtown Legion baseball games.
